Eliza Millsom | Nourished Tribe
Introducing Eliza Millsom! I had the pleasure of going to uni with Eliza and we recently caught up while recording her podcast episode for Nutrition Grad Guide. Not only is Eliza a talented nutritionist and yoga teacher, she’s someone that is so full of knowledge and wisdom. Learn all about her and be inspired!
Tell us a bit about yourself:
Well, I am a Nutritionist and Yoga Teacher. I am 27 years old, currently working for Swisse as Education & Training manager. Love wine and the beach :D
Finish this sentence: ’Everyone that knows me knows that…’
I love food!!
What does living a nourished life mean to you?
This has changed a lot for me in the last few years, living a nourished life for me is taking a really holistic approach. Nourishment doesn’t just mean food and our diet, but encompasses the body, mind, environment, movement & relationships. I try and make a conscious effort to ensure that no matter what I am consuming, whether it’s the food I eat, the articles that I read, the people that I surround myself- support me in feeling my best!
What sparked your passion for health & wellness?
For me it came from my own personal journey with my health! I struggled a lot throughout my teenage years and early adult hood with a negative relationship with my body and food. I also always suffered from various intolerances, gut issues etc. I initially decided to study health science because in my spare time I would spend hours reading health information online in blogs, magazines etc .. so, I decided to study it!
Describe your food philosophy:
My food philosophy has changed a lot over the years, I have tried every type of diet fad, food craze you name it! Tracking calories, keto, high protein, low carb, low fat .. which in my opinion all come from a place of restriction rather than nourishment! After a lot of years of trial and error, my food philosophy is a lot gentler these days. I try to eat when I am hungry, stop when I am full and try to eat as many plants as possible with small amounts of meat and fish. I do try to eat organic wherever possible particularly fruit and veg. I love going out for dinner to enjoy delicious pasta and wine on a weekly basis, cheese and wine time is my fav!!!
Tell us about what a typical day on your plate looks like:
Pre Breakie: 1 large cup of warm water with lemon
Breakie: Home-made sourdough with avo & tomato
Lunch: Either salad with rice and tuna or left overs from dinner like a lentil Bolognese
Dinner: Always something quick and simple with lots of veggies like a salad with fish and rice!
One bit of health advice you wish everyone would follow:
Ahhh, breathe more. Meditation, pranayama (Breath work) is THE fastest way to reduce stress, calm the nervous system, bring a sense of presence and consciousness in the body, so that we can make better decisions for our health. The breath is the most healing tool we have in our wellness toolbox and its free!!
What is one health, wellness or personal development book that you think everyone should read?
Ahhh so hard! There is so many, I used to read a new PD book every single week! Now to be honest the best piece of advice someone gave to me is to not always read for learning but for enjoyment! So I am reading a lot of fiction, just finished Boy Swallows Universe by Trent Dalton, incredible book! I also love reading books on meditation, so at the moment I read a passage out of a book called The Radiance Sutras - beautiful book of mantras, meditations and poetry.
Last but not least, where can people find you?
