Anti-Inflammatory Mango & Turmeric Smoothie

mango-turmeric-smoothie.jpg

There are many things I love about summer, with just one of them being the delicious seasonal fruit. Mangos, I'm looking at you! Nothing says summer like a mango smoothie, so I created this super simple nourishing recipe to maximise the benefits of this tropical fruit. This mango & turmeric smoothie has only 4 ingredients and utilises a delicious flavour combination that will leave you coming back for more. The beautiful colour will even remind you of sunshine in a glass, who could say no to that?

Turmeric seems to be all the rage right now, and with good reason. This powerhouse ingredient has so many health benefits. As a potent anti-inflammatory, turmeric, particularly the compound it contains called curcumin, has been found to be beneficial in any inflammation or inflammatory conditions. Turmeric is great for liver detoxification and can help balance out phase one and phase two detoxification pathways, as well as being a thermogenic spice which allows it to boost our metabolism and assist with weight loss.

Anti-Inflammatory Mango & Turmeric Smoothie

Vegan | Refined Sugar Free |Gluten Free | Nut Free
Serves 1

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe mango

  • 1 tsp of turmeric

  • 1 cup of rice milk (or other plant milk)

  • 2 tbsps of vanilla protein powder (pea or brown rice protein)*

Method

  1. Peel and chop the mango and place it into your blender.

  2. Add in the turmeric, coconut milk, protein and black pepper.

  3. Turn the blender to high speed and allow to combine until it becomes a smooth liquid.

  4. Once mixed well, turn off the blender and pour into your chosen glass.

Something I love about this recipe, and many smoothies in general, is their convenience! This makes it easy to have them for breakfast, even if you're in a rush, so there's no excuse to skip the most important meal of the day. Having protein in it will also ensure it keeps you full and satisfied until your next snack or meal.

*In terms of protein powders, I recommend finding one with as few ingredients as possible to help avoid unnecessary additives. I love the Amazonia raw protein range and normally use either the vanilla protein isolate or the vanilla and cinnamon slim and tone protein. Other great brands that I would recommend are Vital Protein, Sun Warrior and Prana.
