To start off a new year (and new decade) I thought the book ‘Your Dream Life Starts Here’ by Kristina Karlsson would be the perfect book to have as our Nourished Book Club January book. 2020 is the year of perfect vision after all.

As the name suggests, this book is all about creating the life of your dreams. Along with amazing advice from Kristina about how to craft your dream life, this beautiful book is also filled with inspiring quotes and stories from people who have gone after their dreams.

The book takes readers through so many different exercises to help you determine what your dreams are and how to break them down and make them a reality. I’m a big believer of knowing what you want so that you can get it and this book reinforces why this is so important.

From figuring out your values and the things you’re passionate about, to writing 101 dreams down, imagining your dream day week and life and visualising your future self, Kristina takes us through all of the different aspects of dreaming and creating the life of our dreams.

Kristina asks big questions and encourages us to reflect on things like ‘what would you do if you could not fail’ and ‘what would you do / stop doing if you only had 3 years to live’. She emphasises the importance of self-awareness and getting to know yourself.

She encourages us to dream BIG and let go of our limitations. Kristina tells us not to be intimidated by these big goals and shows us how to break them down into small tangible steps.

Emphasising the importance on focusing on a few goals at a time, she explains why we shouldn’t spread ourselves too thin and why we should work on 3 main goals at a time.

Some of my key take aways and Kristina’s top tips from this book were:

  • Dedicate time to dreaming and get clear on what you want.

  • Planning is important, take the time to break down your big goals and schedule them into your life.

  • Don’t stress about the big picture, take small steps towards what’s important to you and the results will come.

  • Find inspiration in other people, both what they’ve done and what they dream of doing.

  • Break your life into different areas that are important to you and figure out what you want in each of these areas.

  • Know why you want what you want.

  • Choose dreams that are authentic to you, your desires, passions and values, not the ones placed on us by other people or society.

  • It’s not all about what you do, but also what you choose not to do.

  • Research shows that you’re 42% more likely to achieve your goals if you write them down.

  • You are in control of your life, it’s in your hands to create the life you dream of.

  • Write down your dreams as if they’ve already happened.

  • Look at your dreams often, remind yourself of what you want and what you’re working towards.

  • Share your dreams and goals with other people.

  • Dreaming is a life-long process.

I loved this book and recommend it to everyone that wants to create the life of their dreams. It’s not an easy book or a quick read, as you really need to spend the time doing the exercises and journalling prompts to get the most out of it, but it’s so worth the time and consideration. If you’re interested in grabbing a copy, you can find it here. Get dreaming everyone!
