Winter Seasonal Eating: A guide to winter produce
June, July & August are the winter months here in the southern hemisphere, which brings shorter and much colder days. With the decrease in temperature our body tends to crave warm and comforting foods. Throughout winter, we can also have a heightened appetite and tend to eat more food to provide more energy to keep warm.
With the cold weather, different fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices are in season and as always it is important to focus on eating seasonally to ensure we’re getting fresh produce.
The cold days and longer nights call for more warming winter dishes. Dust off your slow cooker and get your oven ready for plenty of use. Over these colder months, some dishes that will be on rotation include curries, stews, casseroles, stir fries, lots of roast veggies and of course soups.
